Novel-protein limited-ingredient dry food
Description
A dry food built around a single, often less-commonly-used protein source (such as rabbit, venison, or duck, rather than the chicken or beef found in most standard formulas) combined with a deliberately short overall ingredient list, specifically intended to help identify or manage a suspected food allergy or sensitivity by minimizing the number of potential trigger ingredients a cat is exposed to.
Suitable For
Cats undergoing a veterinary-supervised elimination diet trial to identify a suspected food allergy, and cats with a confirmed sensitivity to more common protein sources once that's actually been established through such a trial.
Cautions
For an elimination trial to genuinely work, it needs to be the cat's ONLY food source — no treats, no table scraps, no flavored medications — for the full trial period (typically 8-12 weeks), which is a real behavioral and logistical commitment often underestimated going in; a diet trial "cheated" even occasionally doesn't give a reliable result and may need to be restarted entirely.
