Kitten milk replacer
Description
A specially formulated milk substitute for orphaned or supplementally-fed kittens, nutritionally designed to approximate queen's milk's protein, fat, and calorie density — genuinely different from cow's milk, which lacks the necessary nutrient density and which most cats (kittens included) are actually lactose intolerant to, making it a poor and potentially digestive-upset-causing substitute despite being a commonly assumed one.
Suitable For
Orphaned kittens or kittens whose mother cannot nurse sufficiently, used exclusively until weaning onto solid kitten food begins (typically starting around 3-4 weeks of age) and continuing as a supplement alongside solid food through full weaning.
Cautions
Never substitute cow's milk, goat's milk, or human infant formula for a proper kitten milk replacer — the nutrient profile is genuinely wrong for a kitten's needs in each case, and cow's milk specifically commonly causes diarrhea given typical feline lactose intolerance. Bottle-feeding technique and feeding frequency both matter significantly for a very young kitten's survival and should ideally be guided directly by a veterinarian, particularly for kittens under 2-3 weeks old, who need feeding every 2-3 hours around the clock.
